York is one of most beautiful cities in England. Arguably, there is also more history in York than any other city in the UK. Below are just a few suggestions for what you may want to do in your visit to York.

National Railway Museum

The National Railway Museum is a fascinating museum for anyone interested in the railways.

York Castle Museum

The Castle Museum is probably the best Museum in York, but be warned that you will need plenty of time! Worth taking a look at Clifford's Tower opposite too!

Jorvik Viking Centre

On everyone's list of places to visit in  York. Very well devised museum that takes you through recreated Viking life in York.

York Minster

York Minster is the finest Cathedral in the UK and perhaps Europe. Beware the long trip up the staircase to the centre tower but still well worth it! One of my favourite buildings. Take the tour - the tour guides are fabulous!

York City Walls

Take a trip around the city walls of York. Built by the Normans on the Viking mounds! If you don't fancy the full walks, I recommend the short stretch between Monk Bar and Bootham Bar

The Shambles

An old butchers street that is famous world wide. See the ancient houses down this ancient street.
